The Sliver Party
tumblr peeps! i needs your help!

static-nonsense:

note: any reblogs for this would be incredibly helpful and spiffy! <3

so for my birthday my super spiffy and awesome fiance bought me a new processor for my desktop. tried to match up the compatible processors with my motherboard (asus m2n-sli deluxe) but we noticed that the model number for my processor did not exactly match the one listed on the compatibility page. the page listed the amd phenom II 3.2ghz quad core (955), but the one newegg sold was actually the black edition (955be). meaning, even with a bios update, it’s… not working D:

on the 1701 bios update, it’s successfully passing post and loading the os (win7x64), but it doesn’t actually recognize the processor and is only running at 800mhz. on the 5001 bios update, the one that supposedly makes my motherboard compatible with am3 socket processors, recognizes the processor and passes post (tho still only running at anywhere from 800mhz to 1.6ghz), but once it tries to load the os, it hits the startup screen and then cold restarts. queue this cycle forevers.

trying to appease the god that is google, we tried finding out what changes were needed in the bios to get the processor to work, as others have been able to run the 955be on this motherboard just fine. same os and everything. others have reported needing to change the voltage, but never specified what the voltage should be, or which voltage actually needs to be changed. we’ve tried toying with it ourselves, but one should also keep in mind the fact that i’m running the stock fan and heatsink, as my case only allows for heatsinks that point upwards, not sidewards, and i can’t seem to find a higher end one that actually does that for the life of me. and the stock heatsink has been known to fail, so the last thing i want to do is push it too far and fry the processor before i even have a chance to use it, let alone return it for something that is ‘compatible’.

so. ideas? suggestions (that don’t involve resetting the cmos, bc we have done that time and time again and no it hasn’t changed a thing)? anything that is more helpful than the hell that is asus customer service (how the hell do you manage to get a voicemail box on a fucking toll-free number of an international company? i don’t get it)?
